EU Alumni Event Toastmasters International

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit organization with over 292,000 members across 14,350 clubs in 122 countries. European University Munich Campus had the pleasure of hosting the “Toastmasters International EU Alumni Event” on October 19, 2013. The event was a full-day event attended by over 100 people; both EU alumni and Toastmasters International members.

Munich Campus Dean, Sascha Liebhardt, introduced Toastmasters International and European University to attending guests. He was followed by Toastmasters Ineke Vermeulen and Martin Brown, who encouraged alumni to join the organization as it is a good platform to improve their public speaking and leadership skills. They can attend meetings and later move up the ladder within the organization.

The guests were treated to several interactive activities: competition rounds were followed by two major rounds, table topics and a humor contest. Each competitor took to the stage to speak about a particular topic for two, timed minutes. The crowd laughed at their funny one liners and sarcastic humor.

Following the competition rounds, everyone was treated to lovely Indian cuisine.

After lunch, the day continued with a workshop on impromptu speaking where EU alumni got the chance to improve upon their communication skills when in unexpected situations and were given some pointers on how to tackle tough moments in their business or social lives.

Ms. Vermeulen and Mr. Brown then held a demonstration session on the kind of events that take place during regular Toastmasters sessions twice a month.

The event drew to a close with the announcement of the competition winners and a Q&A session.
